Extension Activity: Blood Donation

Good Morning,

The institutes of higher education are required to play pivotal role in nation building exercise through Teaching, Research and Extension. The department of Chemistry conducts various such activities. Readers are requested to give their inputs for further enrichment of these activities.

1) Blood Donation Camp: The department has organized this activity for consecutive three years. This activity is organized in coordination with certified blood banks. The students and teachers actively participate in this activity. The purpose of this activity is to enlighten students about the problems of blood scarcity faced by hospitals and patients during health crisis and encourage them to take up this activity as a responsibility towards the society.

We are posting short reports and glimpses from the blood donation camps organized by the department.

Academic Year 2016-17

The blood donation camp was organized by Post Graduate Department of Chemistry and Research Center, AISC, Pune on Wednesday, 31st August 2016, at L1 Hall, Second Floor, Library Building, Abeda Inamdar Senior College, with the help of Red Plus Blood Bank, Bhosari, Pune. It began at 10:00 am and continued till 04:00 pm, with a steady stream of donors throughout. The L1 hall was abuzz with college students and staff chatting with each other, happy to be able to play their part in lending a helping hand to people in the region.

            L1 hall was utilized for medical check-up of potential donors, as well as the donation itself. They were provided with glucose water and food including tea, coffee, biscuits and banana. It was great to see more people than pre-registration numbers turning up at the venue. This stretched the capacity of the blood bank, as a result of which the contact details of the donors were taken so as to allow them to donate at the earliest to the blood bank. The blood bank asked for 40 units. Blood bank got 25% more volunteer than their expected numbers and the collection tallied to 51 units.

Academic Year 2015-16

As a part of celebration of 25 Years of Excellence, Post Graduate Department of Chemistry and Research Center had organized a Blood Donation Camp in association with Aacharya Anandrishiji Blood Bank, Pune, on 27^th October 2015 at 10:30 am to 03:30 pm. Many students from different departments of our college had visited the camp and 21 students donated their blood on this occasion. 

Academic Year 2014-15

The department of Chemistry, Students Welfare Association and Acharya Anandrishiji Pune Blood Bank organized a Blood Donation Camp on 28^th January 2015. All the institutes in the Azam campus were informed about the date and schedule of the camp. Banner and pamphlets were displayed in the campus in advance to create awareness about the blood donation. A multi-lingual slide show was prepared and run on the day of blood donation.

The response of the students was very encouraging. Many girl students also came forward to donate blood. All the approved procedures were followed by the bank staff for the collection of blood. The donors were given certificate of appreciation and a small gift. 51 bags were collected during this camp. The blood bank gave a certificate of appreciation to the department of Chemistry and Students Welfare Association.
