Computer Aided Drug Design and Development-2018 (CADDD-2018)

The Post Graduate Department of chemistry organized a short course on “Computer Aided Drug Design and Development-2018” of 22 hours which was taken each Saturday from 24th February 2018 to 24th March 2018.

The topics covered in the said workshop include SAR, Pharmacophore Modelling, Data Mining, QSAR, Drug Design and Drug-Protein Interactions. Laboratory sessions covered applications like Marvin Sketch, KNIME, Discovery Studio, MGL Tools, PyMol and Autodock Vina.

The workshop was attended by 42 participants from AISC, Poona College and Bharathi Vidyapeeth. Certificates were distributed to successful participants.

Chem-Quiz 2017-18

The Post Graduate Department of Chemistry and Research Center of Abeda Inamdar Senior college conducted Chem- Quiz (2017-18) Competition on Tuesday, 13.02.2018 at 11:00 am for M. Sc. Chemistry students during ChemFest week in Green Auditorium. This activity is organized to build confidence and competitive spirit amongst students. Phase One of the competition was based on multiple Choice question in Chemistry. Head of the Department Dr. Khursheed Ahmed, Co-ordinator of the program Mr. Shaikh Javed A., Ms. Priti Singh and other staff members were present on the occasion. 41 teams participated in the competition and top 03 performances were awarded cash prize of Rs. 500, 300 and 200 along with certificate of recognition.

e-Collage Competition



Paper collage is a technique where the artwork is created using bits & pieces of different textured & colored paper. These forms and shapes eventually create a whole image. Art expression is a unique way of linking imagination and creativity with the shades and tints of life experiences. Collage making competition was conducted by the department of Chemistry to light up the spirit of sharing and thanks giving at the end of a ChemFest-2018. There was a great cooperation seen among the team and the students learnt a lot through the competition. This year the department of chemistry has organized the e-Collage competition on 13th Feb 2018 at 03.00 pm in e-Library. An overwhelming response from the post-graduate students was received. 12 teams comprising 2 students from post graduate students were participated in the competition. All the participants were asked to create a collage using computer and internet to avoid the wastage of paper, colour and other material. Refreshments were also served during the competition. Two Winners were selected from the participants. Prizes and certificates were distributed to the winners by the hands of Dr. Khursheed Ahmed.

Training Programme On Anti-Superstition Drive


Superstition has become irrational belief in supernatural influences leading to good or bad luck, or a practice based on such a belief. A training programme on “Anti Superstition Drive” was organized on 11th February, 2018 at the Green Galaxy of Abeda Inamdar Senior College, Azam Campus, Pune in association with Maharshtra Andh Shraddha Nirmulan Samittee. The main objective behind the program was to get people aware about the superstition and tricks/chemistry behind the superstition. Many people become fool after watching some tricks played by the fake faith healers without knowing the fact of the tricks played.
The faculty members and students of Abeda Inamdar Senior College attended the training programme along with Dr. Shaila Bootwala and Dr. Khursheed Ahmad Two sessions were conducted between 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. Mrs. Nandani Jadhav  (President, Maharshtra Andh Shraddha Nirmulan Samittee) and Milind Deshmukh (Secretary,  Maharshtra Andh Shraddha Nirmulan Samittee) performed various experiments to show and explain the Tricks/Chemistry behind the superstition.
Twenty different experiments and tricks were played during the workshop while Ms. Nandini Jadhav and Milind Deshmukh both explained how to present these experiments to people and try to fade the belief on false magics played by babas and sadhoos. They also encouraged the participants to come forward to eradicate the wrong beliefs and superstitions of people. TWO DAY STATE LEVEL SET-NET WORKSHOP IN CHEMICAL SCIENCES

The Department of Chemistry, Abeda Inamdar Senior College, Pune is offering Postgraduate Course in Analytical and Organic Chemistry since last twelve years, catering to the needs of postgraduate students. The number of students and teachers appearing for SET-NET Examination in the Subject of Chemical Science is quite large. There is a need to provide a platform to these candidates to make them well equipped and prepared to take up these examinations. Seeing the large opportunities of placements in the field of higher education Mrs Tambat Nazia, Shaikh Siraj and Shaikh Javed from department of chemistry of Abeda Inamdar senior college has conducted a workshop on net/set guidance for the Pg students on 19th and 20th January 2018 in PAI Hi-Tech Hall, Azam Campus Pune. Around 135 participants including teachers and students attended this workshop from various colleges. They have been immensely benefited by the lectures given by Resource persons.

Personality Development and Communication Skill Course (PDCS)-2018


The Personality Development and Communication Skill Course (PDCS) are conducted to prepare the students to face interview confidently. This year the course was conducted for two days and the lectures were delivered by Ms. Arpita Ghosh. She is a trained Life coach and soft skill trainer. The course was conducted for M.Sc. (Chemistry) second year students of both disciplines i.e. Organic and Analytical.  The two day program was divided into four sessions; each session was interactive and experimental. These four sessions comprised of topics like building self-confidence and self-esteem, communication skills with tips on presentation skills, goal setting, adopting to new lifestyle, team building and interpersonal skills, handling emotions, preparing for interview and zest of life.  The use of Drama, Role play, Art, Dance & Voice Movement, Games allowed students to get in touch with their creative self, move out of their comfort zone and learn with fun. Each session ended with guided meditation and each session was designed with practical to achieve the designed goals.
The students were motivated by each session and there self-confidence and self-worth improved. They learned effective communication and got a better understanding of professional life.

Science Exhibition

The science fair of Abeda Inamdar Senior college was organized on  11th January, 2018. The exhibition comprised of a variety of exhibits of each department of science. The Department of Chemistry had exhibited four exhibits  in this fair. The exhibits focused mainly on science and technology for human welfare and the developing trends in chemistry. The students of undergraduate participated in the science fair.

Anti-Superstition Drive


On Saturday, 6th January, 2018 at 10.00 am, Abeda Inamdar Senior College organized a programme on “Anti-superstition Drive” at the Assembly Hall Azam Campus, Pune. Nearly 300 staff members from FIVE institutions of Azam Campus attended the programme. Ms. Nandini Jadhav (President of Maharashtra Andh Shraddha Nirmulan Samitte) and Mr. Milind Deshmukh (Secretary, Maharashtra Andh Shraddha Nirmulan Samitte) were the main guest speakers of the programme. Dr. P. A. Inamdar (President, MCE Society) graced the function and motivated the staff members to learn the hidden tricks and chemistry behind superstitions. He wanted an active participation of the staff members and students in the movement to eradicate the superstitions spread among people in association with Maharshtra Andha Shraddha Nirmulan Samiti (MANIS).
Nandini Jadhav and Milind Deshmukh were featured speaker, performing various experiments related to superstition and revealed the facts to the audience that how impersonator’s (Hypocrite Baba’s or Fraud Baba’s) fraud the peoples. Total ten experiments were performed by Nandini Jadhav and Milind Deshmukh. Nandini. Nandidni madam also shared her views about the work she is doing to eradicate the wrong believes of people or on superstitions. To motivate the participants, she also told about her joining of this movement and the MANS and how she left her jobs. Milind Deshmukh sir challenged the audience and impersonator’s that he will award 21 Lac rupees if someone shows the real magic without any tricks.
After all the tricks revealed to audience with the help of chemical reactions behind the superstitions, the programme ended with a very inspirational speech of Dr. P.A Inamdar, who remarked, “I feel that superstition will kill the society like a virus”. He announced that a competition on tricks and chemistry behind anti-superstition will be held after a 03 months and 2-3 training programme on the subject. He also mentioned that three prizes of 1 Rs. lac, 75K, 50K to 1st , 2nd and 3rd rank holders respectively together with increment to all the staff who joins the competition. He offered a full time payment and incentives to those who will devote and work hard for this movement of eradication of superstition from the society. With all the tricks played by the members of MANIS the motivations from the President’s captivating words in the Assembly hall, made a truly day to remember.

International Symposium on Novel Targets for Cancer Therapy



Maharashtra Cosmopolitan Education (M.C.E.) Society’s Interdisciplinary Science and Technology Research Academy (ISTRA) and Abeda Inamdar Senior College had organized an “International Symposium on “Novel Targets for Cancer Therapy” on 5th January 2018 in the PAI Hi Tech Hall, Azam Campus, Pune. The symposium was inaugurated by Dr. P. A. Inamdar, President, M. C. E. Society and graced by Mrs. Abeda P. Inamdar, Vice-President, M. C. E. Society and Chairperson, ISTRA.
Eminent Cancer biologists delivered talks related to Cancer therapy. Dr. Harikrishna Nakshatri, Professor of Breast Cancer Research, Professor of Surgery, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and Associate Director at Indiana University School of Medicine delivered the keynote address on“Emerging concepts in normal breast heterogeneity and its impact on tumor/metastasis characterization”.
Dr. Rita Ghosh, Associate Professor of Urology, Departments of Pharmacology and Molecular Medicine, University of Texas Health, San Antonio spoke on “NAD[P]H: Quinone Oxidoreductase as a therapeutic target for prostate cancer’ Dr. Pratap Kumar, Professor of Urology, Departments of Pharmacology and Molecular Medicine, University of Texas Health, San Antonio delivered a talk on “Natural products as adjuvants for cancer therapy”.

Dr. ShrikantAnant, Associate Director of Cancer Prevention and Control, University of Kansas Cancer Center gave information on“Cancer Stem Cells: The Mother Bee to Target”. Dr. AnimeshDhar, Associate Professor of Cancer Biology and Molecular and Integrative Physiology, University of Kansas Cancer Center spoke on the topic entitled “ Super-enhancers: Novel Targets in Pancreatic Cancer”. The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Subhash B. Padhye, Director, ISTRA.
